Sunday Ochonu Ochai is a veterinarian with a PhD in Veterinary Tropical Diseases, where he specialises in understanding the roles of hosts and environment in the transmission of persistent pathogens. He is the Head of the One Health Unit at the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS) in Copenhagen, Denmark. In this role, he leads and oversees the One Health portfolio that focuses on agrifood systems, environment as well as climate change. He supports projects in over 20 countries
He also holds academic affiliations with the Department of Veterinary Tropical Diseases at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and the Antimicrobial Research Unit at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Dr. Ochai has also dedicated his career to building resilience and improving livelihoods in crisis-affected regions of Africa. Previously, he has held roles such as a Livestock Officer for Christian Aid UK in Nigeria, where he implemented programmes for the World Food Programme (WFP)/FADAMA 3 and the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO).
