Dr. Biron joined the Faculty of Pharmacy at Université Laval in 2008 after a postdoctoral fellowship in pharmaceutical chemistry at the Technical University of Munich. His research activities aim the development of new antimicrobial agents based on peptides and natural products through the use of chemical and biomimicry approaches. His team has developed innovative synthetic routes to access several bacteriocins and lipopeptides and to generate analogs with improved pharmacological properties. One of them, developed in collaboration with Dr. Ismail Fliss, has been recently approved by Health Canada and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as an antimicrobial technological agent for foods and is commercially produced.
